Island Planet! Review

Rating:

Another in our series of Ludum Dare #17 reviews, Island Planet! is a grand idea that suffers from lack of polish, from lack of time.

Soundfight Review

Rating:

I'm always excited to review experimental concepts - its never about they achieve, but what they discover. Soundfight is a game that does this in an attempt to pit songs against each other in a shooter framework, but loses much "game-ness" in the process.

A Fishing Adventure Review

Rating:

Sophie Houlden has my upmost respect for the creation of The Linear RPG, which I reviewed yesterday here at IndieReview. She has my admiration even more so now with her Ludum Dare 17 entry, which is easily one of the better looking ones we have reviewed so far.

Deep Under An Island Review

Rating:

Another Ludum Dare 17 entry, this time a colourful puzzle game based on snake, that's short but oh-so-sweet.

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space Review

Rating:

If you've ever wanted to explore the vastness of space and do it all in one go, without a heavy interface or game system to learn, Strange Adventures in Infinite Space might just be for you.

The Linear RPG Review

Rating:

This game attempts to reduce RPGs to its simplest form, and actually manages to succeed. It is very rare that I'm giving such a small game a 4 star rating, but I really think the thought that went into its creation deserves that recognition.

Artillery Isles Review

Rating:

Another Ludum Dare 17 entry with a nice, fast-paced twist on strategy games. Destroy your enemy's island bases while keeping your own together using resource management and tactical nukes.

Drone Review

Rating:

Drone is an interesting blend of shooter, tower defense and real-time strategy, all packed into an elegant little package. It allows you to shoot enemies, build things to shoot enemies and upgrade to shoot enemies better, what's not to love?

The Adventures of Archie Pegalo Review

Rating:

A colourful, responsive and frustrating platformer for the 17th Ludum Dare competition. The theme of the competition was 'islands'. I'm not quite sure what the theme of this is.

Ludum Dare 17

The 48-hour game making competition, Ludum Dare, has just finished it's first competition of this year. Ludum Dare 17 boasts a whooping 208 entries based on its theme of "Islands", and they are now all available for download.

Runman Race Around the World Review

Rating:

RunMan is a delightfully fun and original platform game, where speed is the key to conquering the world. The fun graphics and odd soundtrack will suck you in; the frantic, high paced gameplay will keep you going.

Probability Zero Review

Rating:

Probability Zero is a very difficult platformer that sports elements of RPGs, Shooters and Arcade games. Levels are auto-generated so you'll never play the same game twice, but it also maintains a constant high level of difficulty that frustrates beginners.

Aftermath Review

Rating:

Aftermath is a special kind of brilliant that not everyone will appreciate, or maybe even understand, but it's one of my favourite Indie Games ever, and here's why.

Redivider Review

Rating:

A simple browser-embedded game that challenges your mouse drawing skills. Cut green spheres, divide blue spheres and avoid grey spheres using mouse click-and-drag, all in 10 seconds per level. This is one puzzle game that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

FallOver Review

Rating:

FallOver is a hilarious parody of platform games, using realistic physics to mock the genre. Unfortunately, thanks to some rather forced design choices, it doesn't come together and doesn't feel as fresh as it could have.

Redder Review

Rating:

Redder is a peculiar platformer with a heavy emphasis on exploration. Everything is left up to the player to discover, including the goal of the game and how to progress within it. Does this makes it an intriguing game or a frustrating concept? You decide.

Olympic Squared Review

Rating:

Olympic squared is simple one-button flash game in which you order multiple athletes to perform stunts in unison. The game is designed for repeated plays towards the achievement of high scores, but its hard to keep playing a game you get bored of so quickly.

Action Fist! Review

Rating:

Action Fist! is an impressive, action-packed tribute to Action Platformers of the past like Megaman and Gunstar Heroes. It might not be for everyone, but it's going to make someone very happy.

10 Second War Review

Rating:

Its not everyday that we get to play shooters with puzzle elements. 10 Second War is one such game that blends skill and brainwork into one ingenious package. Don't be fooled by the name - it definitely takes more than 10 seconds to beat this one. Much more.

Torchlight Review

Rating:

Torchlight is a hack and slash RPG in every sense of the word. It offers little innovation from its Diablo roots, and ironically, that\'s where it shines amongst the fluff of action RPGs available today.

Today I Die Review

Rating:

An insight into the weird but wonderful world of the games that Ludomancy offers, available for anyone to enjoy for free. These independent games offer something unique and I will be exploring the peculiar aspects of the game Today I Die.

Teleportower Review

Rating:

Teleportower is an excellent puzzle game that offers a lot of quality brain twisting and quick button pressing within the tiny package (1.85 MB) it comes in. Alternate between 2 versions of the same level to reach the goal, sounds simple? Think again.

Rocketbirds Revolution Review

RE Alistair Review

Rating:

RE: Alistair is a romantic visual novel independently produced by Sake Visual and released free for download. Adorned with beautiful manga-styled artwork, interesting characters and a unique storyline, this is a gem amongst free visual novels out there.

Plants vs Zombies Review

Rating:

Playing Popcap\'s Plants vs. Zombies is like taking catnip for the soul. It is best described as a casual tower defence game that tickles you silly, piques your interest, then leaves you in stitches and wanting more. And it does so gently.

Hope Review

Rating:

A very short adventure game with a lot of visual eye candy, but suffers from weak story, puzzles and game length. However, the artwork of Ben Chandler is worth giving this game a go, it will only take about 10 minutes of your time anyway.

Frozzd Review

Rating:

Frozzd is a unique platformer game made in Gamemaker 7 that won Yoyogame\'s 2008 winter competition. It features a unique movement system that allows the player to hop between planets exploring the solar system and rescuing the frozen natives from evil aliens.

Continuity Review

Rating:

Continuity is an innovative and refreshing hybrid between a sliding puzzle and a platformer. The game might confuse you for the first few seconds of its beginning due to its intentional lack of instructions, but you should be able to pick it up very quickly.

Color Cube Review

Rating:

Color Cube is an excellent puzzle game that uses three dimensional space ingeniously to create entertaining problems for the player. It's also amazingly simple to play, visually appealing and absolutely free for download.

Closure Review

Rating:

Closure is another one of many flash games that Newgrounds has to offer on their amazing website. However, this game is something completely different from what I have been playing and it resulted in some surprising results.

Castle Crashers Review

Rating:

Castle Crashers is a simple beat \'em up game developed by Newgrounds developer Behemoth. What it wins with is its wacky internet-bred flash art style and toilet humor approach to gags found in-game. You\'ll laugh your way to the final boss with this one.

CarneyVale Showtime Review

Rating:

CarneyVale Showtime is a little indie gem from the Singapore-MIT Gambit Game Labs. Made primarily by students, it won Microsoft\'s Dream Build Play Competition in 2008 and emerged a finalist in the IGF. This is definitely one Xbox 360 game you can\'t miss.

Avarice Review

Rating:

Avarice is a free action role-playing game in the tradition of games like Zelda. While having excellent visuals, story and combat system, the game suffers from an awkward control scheme that leaves a scar on an otherwise pleasant gaming experience.
