Closure Review

Closure is another one of many flash games that Newgrounds has to offer on their amazing website. However, this game is something completely different from what I have been playing and it resulted in some surprising results.
Full Review
Closure is a puzzle game that puts you in the shoes of a character trapped in darkness, with strange glowing orbs that can be carried around providing the sole source of light. The interesting twist is that everything in darkness becomes non-existent - the walls, floor, and doors cease to exist if not within the reach of light, which can facilitate or hinder the progress of the player depending on the situation. However, once I had completed the game, I was left feeling rather disappointed - the graphics are basic, with (in my opinion) a shoddy user interface.
The buttons are straight-forward and easy to use, which allowed me to learn the game quickly and with ease. The other strong positive I award this game are the quality of the puzzles. They are clever in the way it defies common sense and player memory, yet strangely works in the context of the game's odd logic.
Probably the biggest let down of the game for me is that its theme of darkness has taken its toll on the overall visual appeal of the game. This may be the game's selling point, but it ruined the game as a whole for me, which is disappointing. The story isn't narrated clearly enough, resulting in me trying to figure out the narrative from the puzzles that are presented to me throughout the game. The sound is rather disappointing as well because it doesn't blend in very well with the game.
Like all games on Newgrounds, it is free of charge to play. A commercial version with updated graphics should be coming out sometime soon according to its website. Overall I had high expectations for the game, but was ultimately disappointed.
Play the game for free here. Flash player is required.
