Hope Review

Rating:

A very short adventure game with a lot of visual eye candy, but suffers from weak story, puzzles and game length. However, the artwork of Ben Chandler is worth giving this game a go, it will only take about 10 minutes of your time anyway.

Full Review

Hope is an adventure game that puts you in the shoes of a nameless boy, who has recently been "disconnected" from a matrix-like system that imprisons humans within their minds. Like all adventure games, moving around and interacting with objects in the world is accomplished by clicking with the mouse on areas of interest.

The artwork in this game is done by Ben Chandler, who rendered the background, character and animation sequences beautifully. These elements work well with the dialogue to tell the story effectively. The characters presented are also enigmatic and interesting, creating several mysteries early on in the game that players are eager to seek answers to.

However, the length of the game is much too short - it takes about the better part of 10 minutes to finish the game if you are slow. The overarching story is also very unoriginal, and heavily resembles that of the Matrix trilogy of films.

This game is worth taking a look if you are short on time and want a good game to play during your work break. In this particular case, I would say that the short length of the game might become a plus. The quality of artwork and dialogue in this game also sufficiently makes up for what the game lacks in length and originality.

Download the game over at this website.

Its is pretty short, yes. There are longer, more finished works on Ben Chandler's website, which you can find from the download link. I might get around to reviewing more of his works in future, they really deserve to be looked at more. :)
