Olympic Squared Review

Rating:

Olympic squared is simple one-button flash game in which you order multiple athletes to perform stunts in unison. The game is designed for repeated plays towards the achievement of high scores, but its hard to keep playing a game you get bored of so quickly.

Full Review

Olympic Squared starts off with a great idea: You control multiple clones of yourself who move forward constantly at different speeds, then press the left mouse button to order them all to perform the same stunt at the same time. The goal of the game is to find the best spots along the running path where you should clone yourself and perform stunts, so as to achieve the maximum rate of success for your athletic clones.

The game only features 3 sports for you to do this: Skiing, Javelin and Diving. An entire playthrough takes about 1-2 minutes and then you'll be given a total score for all three events and an option to try again. The first flaw that hit me was that there was no high-score table - what is the point of attaining a personal high if you can't show it off?

Secondly, being good at this game required a large amount of trial and error. It wasn't a game where you knew what exactly to do to score well. You had to try cloning yourself early, cloning yourself late, doing the stunt early, and so on, until you get 100% success, and then remember those spots along the running path, just in case you miss maximum score in any of the other two events and had to try again.

Graphics wise, it doesn't have the best art available, but it's still pleasing and comfortable to look at. There are some simple touches aesthetically that I enjoy, like the way it shows the successful divers climbing out of the pool while exhibiting your score during the final level. There isn't any sound at all for this game, which was a disappointment as well.

You can play the game for free on your browser at this website.
