Teleportower Review

Rating:

Teleportower is an excellent puzzle game that offers a lot of quality brain twisting and quick button pressing within the tiny package (1.85 MB) it comes in. Alternate between 2 versions of the same level to reach the goal, sounds simple? Think again.

Full Review

The premise of the game is simple: You can alternate between two versions of the same level and carry over all your momentum from your previous existence (ala Portal) when switching. Teleportower takes this simple idea and presents 50 different problems to solve with that solution.

It complicates things with spikes that kill you, trampolines that increase your jumping power, and the ability to hang on a ledge. With such minor fluff in mechanics, the beauty of the game is brought out through excellent level design - the thoughtful arrangement of those elements making you think and re-think your plan.

The graphics of the game give a nostalgic feel of the 16-bit era with all the levels and characters rendered in pixel art. The simplicity of the artwork also helps to make the puzzles clearer, reducing visual noise, and allowing me to concentrate on contemplating a solution to the level.

For those of you looking for an emersive experience, you'll need to look elsewhere. The sounds are lacklusture and there is virtually no story being narrated to the player (unless you imagine some sort of grueling climb up the levels of an icy tower). However, the gameplay more than makes up for what it lacks in those departments.

This game is definitely worth a try. It's a good 15-20 minutes worth of game time, with your progress saved at the end of every 10 levels. Download the game from this website.
